What's your IQ? Measure it with pure logic.#culture-free
UNIQUE estimates your IQ with 64 abstract Raven-style matrices and an IRT psychometric model. No words, no numbers, no school knowledge: only reasoning counts. And instead of a flattering score you get an honest estimate, with its margin of error stated up front.
No sign-up and no subscription. When you finish, unlock your result (estimated IQ, percentile and 90% confidence interval) for €9.99, or the full report with detailed analysis, PDF and statement of result for €39.99. With the short test (25 matrices) the result costs €5.99.
How it works
Each matrix is a 3×3 grid (at the highest levels also 6×6) with one empty cell. The figures follow precise rules along rows and columns: find them and pick, out of 8 options, the one that completes the grid. It's the format of reasoning tests used in psychology, not a series of riddles or general-knowledge questions.
- Study rows and columns
- Find the missing cell
- Choose from 8 figures
- 120 minutes max
A precise IQ, not a random number
Many online tests just give you a number. We measured how precise ours is: before launching, we had over 1,000,000 simulated people take the full test on a computer, each with a known IQ, using the same engine you will use.
Where do you think you are? Move the cursor to your IQ
Hover over the curve or use the arrow keys.Tap or drag your finger along the curve. Percentages measured on the 136,333 simulated people in the 115–130 range.
Want the highest precision? Choose the full test: 86% of results within 5 points of the real IQ, against 66% for the short test (25 matrices). How we ran it: each simulated person answers according to their real IQ, with matrices deliberately a bit easier or harder than expected and the chance to guess, to make it realistic. They are still simulated people, without the tiredness, distractions or rush of real people: the answers we collect will confirm these numbers.

The method
Many online tests count your correct answers and turn them into a number. UNIQUE applies the principles of psychometrics instead, from how the items are built to how the score is computed.
Culture-reduced items
Only abstract geometric shapes: no language, digits or learned symbols. The rules combine progressions, distributions, logical operations between overlapping figures and arithmetic on elements.
Verified unique solution
A quality step that improvised quizzes skip: every matrix passes an automatic check in which an independent solver tries every possible rule and discards ambiguous items. The distractors are balanced so that guessing gives no advantage.
Adaptive test
Like modern professional tests, the test adapts to you: after a correct answer the next matrix is harder, after a wrong one it's easier. Each matrix is created on the spot for your level, so every answer counts and the estimate is more precise, with a 90% confidence interval on the standard IQ scale (100/15).

Frequently asked questions
What exactly does UNIQUE measure?
Fluid reasoning: the ability to discover new rules and apply them without relying on learned knowledge. It's one of the core components of general intelligence and it's what Raven's Progressive Matrices, which UNIQUE is inspired by, measure.
How is it different from other online IQ tests?
Most online tests give you a number without saying where it comes from. UNIQUE shows you how it's computed: matrices with a verified unique solution, distractors built so you can't guess by elimination, an adaptive test that picks each matrix based on your answers, like modern professional tests, and a confidence interval that tells you how far to trust the result. It also requires no sign-up or subscription, and your data is never sold. It remains a non-clinical estimate: an official IQ requires a psychologist.
How much does it cost?
The test is free. When you finish, you can unlock your result (estimated IQ, descriptive range, percentile, confidence interval and position on the scale) for €9.99, or the full report for €39.99, which adds the breakdown by difficulty level, the detail of every matrix, the PDF report, the JSON data and a UNIQUE statement of result with your name. With the short test (25 matrices) the result costs €5.99 and the full report still €39.99. It is a one-time payment for the test you took: no subscription and no automatic renewal.
What's the difference between the full and the short test?
The short test has 25 matrices instead of 64 and takes at most 50 minutes instead of 120. It works the same way, adapting to your answers, but with fewer matrices the estimate is less precise: the confidence interval is wider. When you finish you can unlock the result, at a lower price, or the full report with the statement of result, just like with the full test.
Is the statement of result official?
It attests the result you obtained on UNIQUE, with a date and an ID code. It is not a clinical or legal certification: for that you need an assessment by a psychologist using normed tests.
How can the test estimate my IQ if everyone gets about two in three right?
Because the test is adaptive: what matters most is how hard the matrices you can solve are, not how many correct answers you give. After each answer the estimate is updated and the next matrix is created close to your level, where you have about a 60% chance of getting it right. People who reason better reach harder matrices. The model also accounts for chance: with 8 options you guess right 1 time in 8, so a single lucky hard answer can't move the result much.
How reliable is the result?
The report always shows a 90% confidence interval: the estimated value lies within it with high probability. The item parameters are set in advance and not yet calibrated on a normative sample, so the result is a non-clinical estimate. Above 145 no test has verified precision, and the value should be read as an extrapolation.
Why do you ask for my age?
Because IQ is always a comparison with people of the same age, as in professional tests (WAIS, Raven's matrices). Fluid reasoning grows through adolescence, stays stable until about 35 and then declines gradually: the same performance on the matrices corresponds to a higher IQ at 70 than at 25, and at 13 than at 25. Your age is stored anonymously with your answers and is only used to calculate your score and to improve the age norms.
Is there a time limit?
Yes: 120 minutes for the 64 matrices (50 minutes for the 25 of the short test) and up to 5 minutes for each one (8 for the 6×6 matrices, which have 35 cells to look at). A second timer shows the time left for the matrix: if you haven't confirmed an answer with Next when it runs out, the matrix counts as wrong, even if you had already selected an option. It makes sure everyone takes the test under the same conditions, as with Raven's matrices. The limit is generous because the test measures the quality of your reasoning, not your speed. If time runs out, the result is based on the matrices you answered: no errors are added, but with fewer answers it's less precise.
If I stop, do I lose my answers?
No. Your answers are saved in the browser: when you come back to the page you'll find the Resume the test button.
Is my data sent anywhere?
Only anonymously. At the end of the test your answers, your age and, if you tell us, how many times you’ve taken the test before are stored without your name, email or IP address, linked to a random code, to improve the test's accuracy (people who repeat the test tend to score higher, so the data needs to tell them apart). The PDF report and the JSON data stay on your device. If you unlock your result or the full report, the payment is handled by the payment provider, which only receives the data needed for the purchase. All the details are in our privacy policy.
Why can't I go back?
Because each matrix is chosen based on your previous answers. If you could change an answer you'd already given, the following matrices would no longer be the right ones for you. Until you move on, you can change your choice as many times as you like. It's the same system used by professional adaptive tests.
Can I retake the test?
Yes, but when you repeat the same matrices your score tends to rise because you remember the solutions. Your first attempt is the most representative.

Scoring method and limitations
Model. The score uses item response theory (IRT), the same statistical approach as modern psychometric tests: your ability is estimated from the answers you gave and the difficulty of each matrix, not by simply counting correct answers. The model also accounts for the fact that, with 8 options, someone guessing is still right 1 time in 8: without this correction, in simulations people who guessed when they didn't know the answer scored about 3 points higher on average.
Adaptive test. The matrices aren't the same for everyone. The test starts with an easy matrix and the difficulty moves up or down based on your answers: after each answer, ability is estimated again and the next matrix is generated at the level best suited to measure it. In simulations with 64 matrices, about 9 people in 10 get an IQ within 5 points of the one the model treats as true, against just over half with the old fixed form.
Matrix difficulty. Each matrix's difficulty is set in advance from the complexity of the rules it contains and is not yet estimated from real data. At the highest levels the test also uses 6×6 single-structure matrices, in which all the figures follow one law linking rows and columns, to be discovered. Their difficulty is even more uncertain: it is a nominal level (4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 standard deviations above the mean) set from their structure and never measured on people. Where the two families overlap the test alternates them, so they can be compared in the data; if you faced at least 3 of the 6×6 matrices, the report also shows the estimate based on the classic matrices only.
Ability estimate. Ability (θ) is estimated with a Bayesian method (EAP), starting from the distribution for people your age, and then expressed on the standard IQ scale, with mean 100 and standard deviation 15, between 40 and 200; above 200 the value is given in standard deviations (SD) above the average for people your age. The 90% interval shows where your value lies with 90% probability. This method pulls extreme values towards 100: a cautious choice. Maximum-likelihood estimate, for information only: .
Age norms. As in professional tests, your score compares you with people of the same age. Fluid reasoning grows until about age 20, stays stable until about 35 and then declines gradually, and the calculation takes this into account. These are provisional norms, derived from the pattern of matrix tests in published studies (Raven's matrices, WAIS Matrix Reasoning): they will be replaced by norms estimated from the answers collected. The test is designed for ages 12 and up; above 90 the norms for age 90 are used.
Very high scores. About 1 person in 740 scores above 145, and about 1 in 31,500 above 160. No test has normative samples large enough to verify scores that high, and measurement error grows in that range too. The IQ scale goes up to 200 (beyond that, the value is given in SD), but above 145 the value is an extrapolation.
Calibration. Turning this estimate into a normed score requires answers from hundreds or thousands of people, to estimate the real difficulty of the matrices, check the model and derive final age norms.
Time. The test has a time limit of 120 minutes for 64 matrices (50 minutes for the 25 of the short test) and 5 minutes for each matrix (8 for the 6×6 matrices), so everyone takes it under the same conditions. A matrix with no confirmed answer within its time counts as wrong, even if an option was selected: if it counted as skipped, you could just wait to avoid the hard ones. When time runs out the test closes and the matrices not reached are left out of the calculation: they're missing data, not errors. Time per item is recorded for information only and does not affect the score.
